Idle Vibration Reduction of a Diesel Sport Utility Vehicle

This paper presents a study on the idle vibration reduction of diesel sport utility vehicle (SUV). To reduce vibration, transmission paths from engine to driver seat floor were investigated with components related vibration. Furthermore, operational deflection shape (ODS) tests conducted visualize shapes during idling. Experimental modal analyses performed obtain natural frequencies and mode shapes. Through ODS tests, characteristics SUV idling identified. Considering these characteristics, multi-body dynamic model for described by differential equations motion was established evaluate implement effectively, equivalent stiffnesses damping coefficients included in determined experimentally or analytically.
